Waste Management & Circular Economy

Waste Management & Circular Economy

Sector Details

Waste management and circular economy models are increasingly central to resilient reconstruction. SGBC’s Waste Management & Circular Economy work focuses on practical, bankable approaches that improve municipal services, reduce environmental burdens, and create industrial value from materials. Near-term priorities typically include collection optimization, sorting and recycling pathways, construction and demolition waste solutions, and pilot-scale models such as RDF preparation where conditions allow. For industry, circularity includes industrial symbiosis opportunities—using by-products as inputs, reducing landfill dependency, and improving resource efficiency in heavy industry and construction materials. SGBC supports members through project packaging and stakeholder mapping to clarify revenue models, operators, municipal responsibilities, and permitting conditions. We convene targeted working sessions that connect municipalities, industrial stakeholders, and potential German technology and service partners. The aim is to move quickly from problem statements to pilot-ready scopes and scalable implementation models. This sector is managed as a cross-cutting enabler that supports construction, industry, and municipal infrastructure. Members benefit from opportunity briefs, introductions, and structured follow-up geared toward pilots first—then scale, once contractual and financial models are proven.
